Usually, I leave all animal related posts to Sonia, but when I saw these portraits, I had to tell everyone! Check out these lovely gouache and acrylic paintings by the talented, self-taught Anne Harwell.
You can follow Harwell's life and passions on her blog Annechovie. She is a Florida resident and her hometown pics remind me of my childhood vacations. Balmy, water-soaked and charming. Although her Etsy shop is stocked with classic chair silhouettes, boxed card sets and house interior paintings, you can commission a painting of your furry beloved or your house. It will be a family heirloom.
Enjoy the mini Q and A.
ML: Tell us about your typical work day.
AH: I usually get to work in the morning after having a little quiet time
to center me, breakfast and coffee. I work in flip-flops and casual
beachwear always....a definite benefit of working from home! I check my
email, deal with correspondence, post comments to my blog, and process
Etsy orders. Then, that gets my mind clear so I can actually work on
the "art" aspect of commissions and get in my creative groove.
ML: Do you have any pets?
AH: Unfortunately, no pets at the moment....I live vicariously through my clients and fall in love with a new pet regularly.
ML: When did you realize you were an artist?
AH: I think it took a long time....I didn't take it seriously until I was
in my early 20's and started working at developing my bent. I owe a lot
of it to my parents - they kept encouraging me when I didn't have
confidence to really pursue art seriously.
ML: Other than painting, what makes you happy?
AH: Knowing that my worth doesn't come from what I do, but from being loved
unconditionally by God and my family. That frees me up to actually
enjoy what I do and to balance the desire and pressure to succeed with
the knowledge that everything will work out. I also love the beach,
spending time with my family and close friends, trying new recipes and
restaurants (I love food!) collecting shells and coral, reading,
shopping, traveling and keeping up with my friends in the blog world.
Thank you Ms. Harwell for your time and keep up the good work!
Anne was one of the first amazing artist bloggers that I reached out to and she was not only kind but full of such a warm spiritual side, full of inspiration and humor. Anybody that works in flip flops, wears headbands, and paints for a living is alright in my book!
I always love her use of color and her smile shines in her work.
